I hope everyone is staying home and staying safe. It looks like many of us are joining Gen Z right now – that is Generation Zoom. Zoom conferencing is exploding all over the country and world right now because of social distancing guidelines. I just read an article that discusses some of the risks and downsides of Zoom. The calls are not encrypted, and they can be hacked. Data from Zoom chats has been leaked, stolen, and sold. The article goes on to say “In fairness, Zoom is not inherently bad and there are many reasons why Zoom is so popular. It’s easy to use, reliable and for the vast majority it’s incredibly convenient. But Zoom’s misleading claims give users a false sense of security and privacy.” The article also discusses several other privacy focused alternatives to Zoom.
