Block Wrinkles & Fine Lines
Restore youth to your face with neuromodulators at Virginia Center for Plastic Surgery. These minimally invasive injectables give you a long-lasting, non-surgical solution for reducing existing wrinkles and preventing future ones from forming.
Neuromodulators: What They Are
Neuromodulators are products that use small amounts of chemicals called neurotoxins that relax the muscles under your skin.
Sometimes called wrinkle-relaxing injections, neuromodulators are refined from botulinum toxin, the same toxin responsible for botulism in larger doses.
The toxins used in cosmetic neuromodulators are highly filtered, refined, and FDA-approved for medical use.
Your board-certified plastic surgeon may recommend one of two ways of addressing your fine lines and wrinkles.
- Relaxing muscles: The first is a neuromodulator that relaxes the muscle contraction beneath the wrinkle.
- Smoothing skin: The second is a dermal filler that adds volume under the skin near the lines and wrinkles, causing them to smooth out.
Neuromodulators, like Botox and Dysport, help people in Northern Virginia and Alexandria enjoy smoother skin and can help prevent the formation of future wrinkles.
How They Work
Your medical provider will inject the medication under your skin, which blocks the neurotransmitter called acetylcholine.
Without acetylcholine, the muscle relaxes. The wrinkles that are produced by facial expressions are called dynamic wrinkles. As you make these facial expressions, the muscles get stronger and larger, which can contribute to the further development of wrinkles. Using neuromodulators to reduce muscle contraction can also help prevent the development of more wrinkles over time.
Types of Neuromodulators at Virginia Center for Plastic Surgery
Neuromodulators temporarily block nerve signals so that your facial muscles can relax.
By minimizing your muscle contractions, neuromodulators help reduce frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet, and other dynamic wrinkles formed by smiling, frowning, or making other facial expressions.
